1884 Wash Overskirt Pattern

1884 Wash Overskirt Pattern
1884 Wash Overskirt Pattern Description:
TV362 - 1884 Wash Overskirt. Multisized XS-3XL. This overskirt design is seen in a Butterick Catalog in 1884. A very similar skirt was also found in an 1882 catalog, worn without a bustle. The design of this overskirt allows the swags and poufs to be let out flat, to allow for washing and ironing. As given here, it is designed to be worn with an underskirt and bustle petticoat TV101. The pointed front apron is attached to the sides, the edges form casings for tie strings which lift the sides and apron, giving a beautiful swag and rear puffs. The sides split at the center front and continue to the back without a seam, having a center back seam and closure. Can be made from a single fabric or of two fabrics, for a beautiful layered look. Sizing and Yardage Information: All the sizes are included, as given below. 1795-1820 Men's Tailcoat Pattern
1795-1820 Men's Tailcoat Pattern Description:
RH201 - 1795-1820 Men's Tailcoat Pattern. This pattern comes with several variations including the standard and M-cut collars. Men's Sizes Medium to XL included (38-50" chest). Excellent for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and other Regency era impressions. Beau Brummell wore a Regency period dress coat as daytime dress. The coat is able to close and the tails are knee length. Beau Brummell set the fashion for dandyism in British society from the mid-1790s, which was characterized by immaculate personal cleanliness, immaculate linen shirts with high collars, perfectly tied cravats, and exquisitely tailored plain dark coats (contrasting in many respects with the "maccaroni" of the earlier eighteenth century). Brummell abandoned his wig and cut his hair short in a Roman fashion dubbed la Brutus, echoing the fashion for all things classical seen in women's wear of this period. He also led the move from breeches to snugly-tailored pantaloons or trousers, often light-colored for day and dark for evening, based on working-class clothing adopted by all classes in France in the wake of the Revolution. A tailcoat is a coat with the front of the skirt cut away, so as to leave only the rear section of the skirt, known as the tails. The historical reason coats were cut this way was to make it easier for the wearer to ride a horse, but over the years tailcoats of varying types have evolved into forms of formal dress for both day and evening wear. Although there are several different types of tailcoat, the term tailcoat is popularly taken to be synonymous with the type of dress coat still worn today in the evening with white tie. This dress coat, one of the two main surviving tailcoats, is a dark evening coat with a squarely cut away front. The other one is the morning coat (or cutaway in American English), which is cut away at the front in a gradual taper. (Wikipedia).

1840 - 1890's Can-Can Skirt Pattern

1840 - 1890's Can-Can Skirt Pattern
1840 - 1890's Can-Can Skirt Pattern Description:
TV280 - 1840 - 1890's Can-Can Skirt. This skirt is the classic can-can skirt of the 1890's. Calf length, it is a full circle skirt, with a lining loaded with ruffles. Center back closure. This skirt is suitable for dance hall and saloon wear. The Can-can was a stage act that originated in Paris in the 1840's, at the more questionable entertainment establishments. It was a dance in which girls would swing up their skirts to show their ankles, petticoats, drawers, and stockings, offering quick glimpses designed to tease the typically male audience. A rare sight indeed, as showing anything above the ankle was taboo. By the 1870's this dance entertainment was gaining popularity at the more respectable establishments as well, and was quickly becoming socially acceptable, though still considered risqu. Needless to say, as this was a seedier stage costume, there is very little source material for the early years. By the 1890's the skirt had taken on the circular shape and layered ruffles on the underside to give a flashy and elegant style to the dance. Historically, the skirt was worn with a regular bodice, high at the back of the neck, low at the bosom, and length sleeve. The ruffles on the underside were typically white, to simulate the layers of petticoats. For modern interpretations, the skirt is often worn with a chemise and corset, or a ball gown bodice, and the ruffles are brightly colored. Sizing and Yardage Information: Multisized S-3XL. Fabric 7 yards Lining 7 yards Ruffles: if yardage* 10 - 12 yards Ruffles: if gathered trim 34 - 39 yards Ruffles: if Flat trim* 52 yards - 59 yards Yardages given are with nap.
