1880 Late Victorian Corset Sewing Pattern

Sewing Pattern to make a 1880 Late Victorian Corset in sizes 32-58: bust, cup sizes AA to DD. This corset pattern is taken from an original pattern found in the May 31, 1886 issue of De Gracieuce, a Dutch magazine similar to Harpers Bazzar. It was published in several other magazines of the time as well, including La Mode Illustre and Harpers Bazzar. This pattern has been modified slightly to accommodate the different cup sizes and modern body types, but retains most of the original proportions and elegance of the original garment. This corset has 6 panels, a center front busk, and laces in the center back. Recommended fabrics: Twill, coutil, canvas, drill, etc. Notions: Corset Busk (14" long), 6 yard corset string, 1 package extra wide double fold bias tape to match fabric (very large sizes will need 2 packages, grommets (00 size works best), 12-28 white steel or spiral steel stays, depending on size.

1873 Polonaise Pattern

TV410 - 1873 Polonaise. Multisized 30-50" Bust. This is a polonaise with a basque back, i.e. the back has an upper bodice section overlapping a lower section with poufs. The front buttons to the waist and then falls open into two points, with pleats at the sides. As an option, the buttons can be extended down the front to give a round apron effect. This style was very popular in the early 1870's. The sleeve is a full length pleated bell. Two neckline options are given. This pattern is recommended for intermediate to advanced sewers. Our patterns are drafted based on a tailoring method actually used in the 1870's. Each size is hand drawn, not scaled. All of the bodice seams are true to the era, and it is designed to fit snugly over a corset. 1883 Tailed Victorian Bodice Pattern

This bodice is designed after a style shown in an 1883 Haper's Bazar magazine. This style was also popular in the later 1880's and 1890's, as well. The front of this bodice has a point and the sides extend past the waist. The back and side-back have "tails" that lay in double box pleats, giving the classic "waterfall" style The sleeve is in 2 pieces, and can be made either full- or ¾-length. There is a full mandarin collar for the high neck, and a half collar for the open neck variation.

Ladies' Early 1860's Day Dress Pattern

View A is a copy of an extant period dress in the author's collection. Views B and C are copies of extant sleeves. Finished Length of Skirt is 42" in front and 45" in back.

All Views have a two dart front bodice and a classic curved V, tucked back. The darts are boned. The front of the skirt is directionally knife pleated, the sides are box pleated and the back is cartridge pleated (gauged). The bodice, sleeves, and skirt are flat lined with polished cotton. The skirt has a pocket and is stitched to the bodice. The bodice has piping at the neck, armscyes and waist. View A has coat sleeves, View B has pagoda sleeves, and View C has pleated pagoda sleeves. Included are a 1 1/2 inch collar and plain undersleeves.
Dress Fabric:

Silk - Taffeta, Loom-Figured, Moiré, Satin, Iridescent, Faille. Drapey or Slubby silk not recommended.
Wool - Challis, Cheviot, Herringbone, Gabardine, Worsteds, Serge, Broadcloth, Twill, Flannel or Novelty Weaves.
Lining:

Polished Cotton, Sateen or Plain Cotton.

1856 Gathered Dress Pattern

TV456 - 1856 Gathered Dress. Multisized 30-50" Bust. This pattern is for an 1856 dress, designed from fashion plates and original garments of the pre-civil war era. This style is suitable for the years 1855-1862, and fits over TV141 round hoop. It has a gathered Fan Front bodice, with a fitted lining and a gathered back. The deep V neckline can be filled in with a chimisette, or left open for a dinner dress. The full gathered sleeve has a fitted upper section and dropped shoulder line. The bodice reaches to the waist at the back and sides, with a shallow point in front. The bodice can also be made plain, if desired. A full skirt is attached to the bodice, or can be sewn to a separate waistband. The closure is in the center front, with hooks and eyes. Each size is hand drawn, not scaled, with all of the bodice seams true to the era. This bodice is designed to fit snugly over a corset. Sizing and Yardage Information: Multisized 30-50" Bust Fabric: 7 ½ yards. Light weight fabrics, cotton, linen, silk, etc. Lining: 1 ½ yards. Use a medium weight, firmly woven fabric like light twill or heavy broadcloth. Yardages given are with nap and are approximate only. Pattern matching may require more fabric.
